Live Near Family and Friends

New public and private housing developments offer diverse options for all who wish to build a home amid the greenery and waterways of the North. New homes along the waterfront such as EastBank@Canberra (completed in 2016), and the new Build-To-Order developments in Sembawang along Sungei Simpang Kiri, are located close to existing residential areas. This proximity will help new residents maintain connections to family and friends.

With four bedrooms, three bathrooms and other innovations, new Three-Generation (3Gen) flats in Yishun cater to multi-generational families living together, where parents and their married children can better care for and support each other. These 3Gen flats have been designed to be elderly and wheelchair-friendly, and are also conveniently located near amenities. The layout of 3Gen flats has also been designed to optimise living space, such as having open kitchens.

Rejuvenating

Middle-aged housing estates such as Yishun will be rejuvenated through the Remaking Our Heartland (ROH) exercise launched by the Housing & Development Board. Yishun residents can look forward to a new commercial and residential development integrated with an air-conditioned bus interchange, as well as the first Community Club located in a shopping mall, conveniently sited across from the Yishun MRT station.

To create a more attractive environment and provide community spaces, the pedestrian mall in Yishun town centre has been upgraded with a plaza and green gateways. The Yishun Pond has also been improved with a new three-storey lookout tower, The Spiral@Yishun, to offer residents a panoramic view and easy access to Yishun Park via an overhead pedestrian bridge.

Amenities Close on Hand

A full array of amenities including educational institutions, community and social facilities, sports facilities, healthcare facilities and commercial nodes are needed support our housing areas. More of these amenities will be introduced in the North, ranging from new healthcare facilities to hawker centres and community clubs. When opportunities arise, these amenities and services will be clustered together to make them more accessible to the community and encourage social interaction.
